Events Bayou City Mambo 2006

We're back from Jerome Carter and the Melody Club's Bayou City Mambo and we've got a lot to share! The event, which happened Feb 3-4, 2006, was very well-organized and so much fun!

On that note, let us start by saying that Mr. Carter is really on top of his stuff and knows to run an event. He gave up his time, sleep, and almost his sanity to make sure everything ran seamlessly. If you roll over the picture in the bottom right, you'll see he came straight from work to hang out with us...still wearing the scrubs!

When we arrived in Houston, Kay picked up us from the airport right on time and we met up with Jerome, Mario B, and Ike to grab a bite to eat. Later that night, we got a glimpse of the Houston salsa night life at Sky Bar, the hottest spot on Thursday nights for Latin music. It was very crowded here, but was still great fun meeting and dancing with the awesome dancers there.

After a long night of dancing, we eventually got back to the hotel and got a few hours of sleep. On Friday, we decided to go shopping at the Galleria, the biggest and most expensive mall in Houston. Here we met up with our new friend Brad (with the SWEET Viper) as well as Troy, Jorjet, Oscar, Kay, and others. While we were taking a break, Mario B decided to teach us a quick footwork pattern. After cruising around the mall for a while, we decided to check out the Williams Water Wall, pictured in the image above. What an awesome landmark!

After eating and being able to rest for a little while, we met up later that night with Magna, Griselle, and Ivona and went over to the Melody Club (Hey Trish!) for day one of the performances. The venue was very spacious with an excellent wooden floor for dancing.

After several performances, we were put on the spot to do a freestyle show for the crowd, which we had no problem doing! You can see our freestyle as well as other performance clips in the media gallery.

When the shows were over, we had a blast dancing to the tunes of "DJ iPod", who had a great lineup of music that kept us jammin' until 3 in the morning. We went back to the hotel to catch a few Z's and prepare for the following day of workshops...
